Career Summary
I began working with photography at a young age. After completing my studies in Broadcast Electronics, I launched my career in 1983 by building the STV Soulis Athanasiou studio. I soon took on roles as Technical Supervisor and Image Control Specialist for ERT productions, as well as Arabic productions being filmed in Greece at the time.
Simultaneously, I attended the Eugenia Hatzikou Film School, studying Cinematography under acclaimed and Oscar-nominated cinematographer Nikos Gardelis. During this period, I directed a short film that was selected for the 26th Thessaloniki International Film Festival. Recognizing my eye for imagery and passion for learning, Gardelis invited me to assist him on the iconic ERT documentary series Monogram, then shot on 16mm film. This experience introduced me to many of the era’s leading visual artists—painters, engravers, sculptors, and writers—who greatly influenced my aesthetic approach.
Later, I worked as a camera operator and technical supervisor at the renowned company Pantas TV, where we installed one of Greece’s first non-linear editing systems. This allowed me to gain valuable skills in digital editing. Nevertheless, my passion for photography led me out of the editing suite and back into the vibrant light of Greece.
Since 1990, I’ve worked as a Director of Photography, collaborating with some of Greece’s most acclaimed directors, including Nikos Foskolos, Yiannis Vassiliadis, Kostas Kostopoulos, Manousos Manousakis, Rigas Apostolou, Vasilis Tselementegos, Alexandros Pantazoudis, Spyros Michalopoulos, Vasilis Thomopoulos, Kostas Kimoulis, Panos Koutras, Giorgos Agathonikiadis, and many others.
My work spans a wide range of productions— Commercials TV shows, game shows, music videos, web series, and two feature films, and several short films. The television series I have worked on as Director of Photography have left a lasting mark on Greek television:
- Kalimera Zoi and Lampsi – among the first daily dramas that captivated Greek audiences
• Synora Agapis and Athoo̱s i̱ Enochos by Manousakis
• Vera Sto Dexi – which redefined cinematography in daily series
• Kokkino Domatio – a unique comedy by Rigas Apostolou
• I Epistrofi – a series that re-established ANT1’s presence in the ratings
• Erotas Fygas – a recent series with exceptional viewership
My latest project is the short film “YOGHURT”, for which I served as director, cinematographer, and editor.
